Velingrad is located 120 km away from the capital Sofia and 85 km away from the cultural center, the city of Plovdiv. It is the biggest Bulgarian balneotherapeutic resort. In Hisar you can see the remains of the biggest Roman bath, discovered in 1935. The archeologists date its construction as far back as the 4th century. An interesting bit of trivia, Emperor Diocletian, who the town was named after, introduced the first bath entrance fees in the world.
